gradual emasculation
gradual emasculation
This piece arose out of a spontaneous collaboration. I was in the car testing my audio recording equipment with long-time collaborator Andrea Anderson - equipment I purchased to record our brainstorming sessions - when I got a phone call that I knew would lead to an impassioned argument. I knew my role in the dialogue would turn into a bizarre sort of performance, and watched Andrea’s jaw drop as my interlocutor’s blistering accusations were captured. When it was over, Andrea snatched the recorder and rushed home to import, isolated the most scathing rebukes, multiplied and remixed them. The entire piece has been digitally morphed across its duration to transform from lower to higher pitch, hence its title gradual emasculation. This has become a significant piece for me - an example of how an everyday type of event can be used as material for one’s creative practice.
